Agnes S. Mazzucchi, “Mama Zook”, a cherished member of her community and a beacon of joy to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, on the eve of her 102nd birthday. Born on July 21, 1923 in New London, Agnes's vibrant spirit and love for life touched many hearts throughout her remarkable journey.
Agnes celebrated an incredible milestone of 50 years of marriage in 1997, a testament to her commitment and love. Her professional life was marked by successful careers at CL&P, Pratt & Whitney and TheTravelers Insurance Company, where she dedicated many years before her well-deserved retirement. Agnes's work ethic and professionalism left a lasting impact on her colleagues and the many people she helped during her tenure.
In her early years, Agnes was an avid bowler, where she not only participated but excelled, winning several trophies. Her athletic spirit also shone through in her love for roller skating and dancing, activities that brought her immense joy and liveliness. Agnes’s passion for music, Manhattans, and a nice cold beer reflected her zest for life and her ability to enjoy the simple pleasures.
Agnes's love for being around family and friends was evident in the warmth and light she brought into every gathering. Her presence was a comforting and joyful one, making every moment memorable for those around her.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband John L Mazzucchi, her parents Joseph and Mary Sheehan (McNamara), her sister Helen Allen, a special nephew Steve Allen and her long time friend Marie Venora.
She is survived by her daughter Patti Civittolo and son-in-law Bob Civittolo of Glastonbury, her son John J. Mazzucchi of Niantic, her grandsons, Kyle Civittolo of Glastonbury, Jason Civittolo and his wife Alexandria and her great grandson Calvin Civittolo of Glastonbury, her nephews Dave Allen (Josephine), Ralph MazzucchI, Timothy Mazzucchi, her niece Sylvia DiPietro, and her great friend Loretta Moore.
Her legacy will live on through the cherished memories she created with her family and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held in her honor on July 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Saint Christopher's Church, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford, CT. The service will be followed by a Celebration of Life at Georgina's Restaurant, 275 Boston Turnpike, Bolton, CT. These gatherings will serve as a tribute to Agnes's beautiful life and the joy she spread to everyone she met. There will be no calling hours, a private burial will be held at a later date.
Agnes's life was a remarkable journey filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Her spirit will forever be remembered and celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know her. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Breast Cancer Foundation in Agnes’s memory.
