1955-2025
Beloved mother and grandmother, Karen Guy Greenwald (better known to many as "Greenie"), 70, of East Hampton, CT, passed away at her home on Saturday, November 1, 2025, surrounded by her three children.
Karen was born in Queens, NY on January 2, 1955 to Franklin (Bob) and Dorothy Guy, and grew up with her three siblings and dear cousin, Janet Wright, in North Bellmore, Long Island. She studied Criminal Justice at SUNY Oswego and had a successful career working with disadvantaged young adults battling mental health and substance abuse issues. She also loved spreading seasonal joy as part of the team at Paul's and Sandy's Too for 30 years, and was the artist behind many of the trademark pumpkin people faces of the world famous Pumpkintown, USA.
Karen's greatest joy in life was raising her three children, Jesse Greenwald (Sarah Greenwald), Torie Greenwald (Mitchell Anderson), and Kasey Scitney (Charles Scitney), whom she shared with former husband, Gary Greenwald (Pam Joslyn). She took great care to build fond memories for her family, giving attention to every detail to make each holiday and family vacation or gathering special. Later in life, she extended this love and care to her four grandchildren, Cameron Jeffers, Fay Greenwald, Amelia Anderson, and Pearl Greenwald.
Karen loved spending time on the water and spent countless hours with family and friends on Lake Pocotopaug, Lake George, and any beach she could get to. She also loved taking walks and adventuring with her dear friend, Jan Ayer. She will be remembered for her incredible strength. She greatly impacted the lives of those she knew and loved, and her presence and support to others will leave a void that cannot be filled.
A celebration of life will be held in Karen's honor at VFW Post 5095 located at20 N Maple St, East Hampton, CT 06424on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 5:00-7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN).
