Leslie H. Haley (Les) age 74, passed away on July 25, 2021, at the home of his daughter, Michele Tabora, in Avon, CT. He was born in Bel Air, Ohio to the late Clyde Haley and Betty Peters on April 3, 1947.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Leslie Jane Haley (2016), son in law Christopher Tabora (2017), granddaughter Autumn Haley (2019), father & mother-in-law, Doine and Helen Trout (1990, 2013 respectively).
He fought a long hard battle with colon-rectal cancer. We’ve all known him by many different names: Son, Brother, Husband, Dad, Brother-in-Law, “Chicken Lips”, Uncle, Friend and Alcohol-Less. But his greatest name he loved to be called was GRAMPS. He never showed a lot of his feelings, but he loved his family very much. An avid Harley Davidson rider, we were blessed to have taken many trips. What a great adventure we shared. Retired from Iron Workers Local 172 in Columbus, Ohio after 28 years of service. He was very proud of his achievements as an Iron Worker erecting many of the high rises in downtown Columbus, Ohio. After retiring he opened his own motorcycle repair shop in Gahanna, Ohio – Full House Cycles. Many Saturdays were filled with other alcoholics sharing and a meeting would be born. His greatest achievement was his sobriety of over 30 years inside the rooms of AA (9-19-1990). Very active in the program he was always there with his hand extended to other suffering alcoholics. He attended a men’s AA/Al-Anon retreat in Boone NC where he served on the board. Attending this retreat inspired him to create a similar retreat in Columbus, The Buckeye Men’s Rendezvous. Many friendships were made over the years inside the rooms of AA. He was blessed to have his sobriety both in CT & OH.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Terri, daughters Michele Tabora and Tami Tyo. He had 2 sisters, Linda Green and Fe Deible, brother Clyde (Skip) Haley. Grandchildren Alex and Trent Tabora, Matt, Eric and Jeffrey Luke Tyo. Many great grandchildren with a new little guy being born in November of 2021. Special friends William Duarte and Robin Tabora both in CT.
Per his wishes there will be no viewing or service. If you wish to donate a Go Fund Me account has been setup in his name.
A favorite saying in our house is as follows:
God Grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change
The Courage to change the things I can
AND the Wisdom to know the difference
AMEN
