Henry Wong, 82, of Durham, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11th, 2023. Henry spent his childhood in Hong Kong with his parents and his younger brother, Lawrence Wong. In 1960, Henry embarked on his new life in Canada attending Loyola University and McGill University in Montreal for his undergraduate and master’s degrees in chemistry. In Montreal, Henry met and married Joyce (née Brooks), and they had two children, Michael and Stephanie. Henry began his career as a research scientist in Montreal at Bristol-Myers (later Bristol Myers Squibb) and would spend his career until he retired, at the age of 68, working with Bristol Myers Squibb in their research facilities in Montreal, Syracuse, and Wallingford, Connecticut. Outside of work, Henry enjoyed painting and drawing, gardening, laughing at Monty Python skits and slapstick comedies, and listening to all kinds of music, especially opera and country music. Henry was a kind, generous, and quiet man who, along with his wife Joyce (who passed in 2016), were active members of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Middletown, Connecticut. In 2019, Henry moved from his home of 33 years in Durham to the senior living community at the Atrium at Rocky Hill, Connecticut where he lived until his passing. A private ceremony for immediate family will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Middletown. Henry’s son Michael (daughter-in-law Cindy) of Middletown, and daughter Stephanie (son-in-law Greg Holland) of Howe Island, Ontario, Canada, ask that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
