Stephen W. Slobodian 1952-2020

Stephen W Slobodian, of Brooklyn Ct passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side after a short battle with cancer on June 15th, 2020. Born on June 19th, 1952 in Hartford Ct, he was a graduate of RHAM high school class of 1970. Immediately following high school graduation, Steve enlisted in the US Navy where he served from 1970-1998. He served in active duty from 1971-1973 on the USS Oklahoma City during the Vietnam war, and then served again in active duty from 1975-1977 on the USS Truckey.

Even after his retirement 1998, Steve continued to be an advocate for all service men and woman and was a devoted friend and supporter of his fellow shipmates who he remained in contact with. Steve worked hard to support his family and was a dedicated CDL truck driver for 37 years. Steve was an avid gardener and was highly active in all outdoor activities. Steve spent a lot of his time being an advocate for people’s rights and was often a strong voice in advocating for victims.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Wenda Slobodian of Brooklyn, his Daughter Janis Passarello and Husband Jason of Hampton Ct, his 3 year old granddaughter Andrea who he cherished dearly and proudly wore the roll as “papa” and his son Steven Slobodian and fiancé Shauna Hencey of Danielson Ct. He is also survived by his half sister Patti Brodie of California along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Steve is predeceased by his parents Josephine Fellinger and Alex Slobodian. He is also predeceased by his sisters Irene Slobodian and Kathy Gaboury.

His family wound like to extend thanks to the Masonicare Hospice staff and especially nurse Debra for their dedication, kindness and the wonderful support and care they provided to Steve and his family during his final days.

A private service with full Military Honors will be held in Middletown Ct on June 30th, 2020 at the Veterans Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at his home on July 11th, 2020.
