Alice M. Barron, 74, was born on June 3, 1944 and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family and friends on December 29, 2018, in Lisbon, CT.
She was born in New London, CT the daughter of the late Henry Rust and Roxanna (Way) Rust. Alice married Joseph S. Barron, lll on September 1, 1961 by a Justice of the Peace and they celebrated their 57th anniversary this past September. Alice worked at the American Optical in Norwich for over 24 years until the company relocated. She was a loving wife who loved to camp seasonally at the Hidden Acres Campground in Preston, CT with her husband Joe for many years.
She loved to cook, sew, crochet and make special gifts for family and friends. Her favorite memories were spent being with her children and grandchildren; camping, trying new recipes, watching a good movie and riding bicycles. Alice had a witty sense of humor and an infectious laugh that would engage people around her including those she didn’t know. She held a special place in her heart for children, animals and the elderly, especially those who were sick or in need. She showed deep love, appreciation and respect for nature and all of God’s creation.
In addition to her husband Joe, she is survived by her daughters, Cindy J. Breton and husband Rene’ of Lisbon; Joanne Barron Gernhard of Norwich; a son Joseph S. Barron lV of Lisbon; a sister Carolyn Southwick of Biddeford, Maine; five grandchildren Steven Allen, Stephanie Allen, John Webb, Evin Gernhard, Eric Gernhard (and their dad Howard Gernhard of Griswold) and three great grandchildren, Alijah Roselund, Paige McNeill and Aubrey McNeill. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Memorial services and burial will be privately held at the convenience of the family at the Poquetanuck Cemetery. Any donations to be made in her memory may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 169 Old Colchester Road, Quaker Hill, CT.
