Altagracia Matos 1935-2019

Altagracia Matos, a resident of the Vernon area, died Monday, July 29th, 2019, at home surrounded by her beloved family.


Born in 1935 in Neyba, Bahoruco, Dominican Republic, was the daughter of Carolina Matos and Armando Duval. A sister to Dr. Jose A. Matos, Feliciano Matos, Elpidia Matos, Daisy Matos & Servando Matos.


Altagracia attended the UASD in the Dominican Republic and became a certified public accountant in 1960, worked for the internal revenue department in DR until retired in 1990. In 1992 she moved to CT where she lived until the day she passed.


Altagracia loved to travel , she enjoyed sawing and knitting, rode roller coasters until advanced age, zip line, even flew with her son-in law piloting. She never got old, she lived her life to the fullest, had the soul of an adventurer and loved her family everyday like it was the last day.


She met Jehovah, attended the East Hartford/South Windsor congregation, and became a witness on 10/24/2015, being the oldest one baptized on that day. She loved her congregation and they loved her back had, she would never miss the gatherings, she attended regardless of the weather inclement.


She is survived by her daughters Carolina Walcher and Jeannette Moore. Her sons-in law Gerald Walcher and Douglas Moore. Her grandchildren Ina (husband Damien) and Alexa Walcher, Bryan, Patrick and Michael Moore. Her nieces Evelyn Polanco and Margarita Matos and nephew Carlos Matos.


The Walcher and Moore families will have a religious ceremony on Saturday, August 10th at 1pm at the Jehova’s Witness Kingdom Hall, at 630 Burnham St,

South Windsor, CT.
