Anita Louise Faulise

Anita Louise (Bohmer) Faulise left us with bravery and dignity on August 16, 2026, much the same way she lived her life. She grew up in Bridgeport and Fairfield in the company of cousins and her many aunts whom she adored. After graduating Cum Laude from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1952 she earned a scholarship to UConn (and Yale School of Nursing) where she met her husband Sam to whom she was married for over 62 years. She graduated in 1956 and started her career, first in nursing at Hartford Hospital, and later in the insurance industry as an actuarial analyst, where her competence and smarts earned her promotions and raises in an era when it was challenging for a woman to do so.
She and Sam started their family in Hartford and later moved to Wethersfield where she was a dedicated and proud mother to Anthony and Rachel. As they grew Anita challenged herself by taking graduate classes in computer science, volunteering as a tutor and eventually working at both Hartford College for Women and the Hartford YMCA’s Read to Succeed program for adult literacy.
Throughout the years Anita cultivated her natural curiosities and interests. She organized a UConn nursing school reunion, nurtured life-long friendships, participated in book clubs and a hiking group, studied non-violent communication, solved cryptology puzzles, perfected her Scrabble game, ate the NY Times crossword for breakfast, read voraciously and tended to a thriving perennial garden. Her love of classical music and opera brought her on many bus trips to New York City, during which she also formed warm friendships.
Anita bestowed upon her friends patience and compassion. Never one to talk at length about herself, she was kind, unassuming, and made everyone feel welcome in her home. She had a gift to listen without judgement, and offer her love, support, and empathy. These were without a doubt her greatest gifts.
She is predeceased by her parents Bertha Erdoss and Walter Bohmer, brothers Larry and Duck (Walter) and sister Dolly. She is survived by her husband Sam, her children Rachel and Tony (Piri) her granddaughter Zsofia, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and one grand-cat.
A private memorial will be held to honor Anita’s life. In lieu of flowers we encourage you to consider a donation to either of the two organizations she supported: Special Olympics or Women for Women International (https://www.womenforwomen.org).
