With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Anne Elizabeth Campbell Buckingham, age 92, on May 15, 2025, in Glastonbury, CT.
Born in Connecticut on October 21, 1932, Anne was the daughter of Colin Campbell of Glasgow and Jessie Lee Treasurer of Inverness, Scotland. She met her husband Walter while working in HR at Sage Allen department store, and they married on July 14, 1957, building a life together on Sherman Road in Glastonbury.
A devoted mother and homemaker, Anne later worked in Special Education at Hopewell School and as Martin Gavin’s assistant at The Phoenix Life Insurance Company, always treating others with warmth and respect.
Anne’s generosity knew no bounds—she welcomed new neighbors with homemade treats, visited the elderly and infirm, and sponsored a refugee family, helping build a thriving Armenian community in Glastonbury. She and Walter hosted guest students from around the world, and their kitchen table was always open for one more.
In her final years, Anne found joy at The Residence at Glastonbury, forming new friendships and even joking about sitting at the “cool-girls table” in the cafeteria. After a fall in 2024, she moved to Buckingham Heights, where she received exceptional care.
Affectionately known as "Granny Annie," she had a gift for listening with genuine interest, making everyone feel loved and valued. A sign behind her chair summed it up best: "What happens at Grandma’s stays at Grandma’s."
Anne is survived by her sisters, Lee Harrison-Colins (94) and Sheila Murray (86); her children, Jeffrey (Joan), James, Jonathan (Sanja), and Elizabeth “Betsy” Pitchell (Jeff), extended family, Barbara Boutot, Vibha Buckingham, Teresita Buckingham, and Roberta Lucarelli; She was a proud grandmother & great-grandmother to Leslie and Lochlan Buckingham (Meg) & son Hollis, Colin Buckingham & son Taemin, Julian and Catherine Buckingham, James, Skyler, and Sofia Pitchell. She is reunited in peace with her beloved husband, Walter.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury, where she was a devoted member for over sixty years.
Instead of flowers, donations may be made to southcongregational.org or Venmo @south-church to support the church’s charitable missions.
Anne’s life was marked by kindness, service, and unwavering love, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished forever.
