August King, Jr. passed peacefully Jan. 1, 2026, surrounded by his family, at his daughter's home, where he also resided, at 5 Union Street, Terryville, CT.
He was born Feb. 25, 1947 in Waterbury to August King Sr and Antionette (Cyr) King. He attended Watertown and Waterbury grammar schools. He was a graduate of Kaynor High School where he was trained as a machinist. He served his apprenticeship at Farrel Foundry in Cheshire. He also earned his skilled machinist papers. He went on to work at the Torrington Co. in Waterbury, until they closed. He went to work at Advanced Animation in Danbury until they moved to Vermont. He went to work at American Electro Products in Waterbury, until his retirement in 2012.
He moved to Griswold for 9 years, until his health started to deteriorate. He then moved to Terryville to be closer to his family. Two years later he moved into his son's house and 3 years later he moved into his daughter's house because he needed around the clock care.
He loved being with his family, going to county fairs, watching football on TV, watching The Golden Girls with his wife. He was bedridden for about 6 months and, to his wife's delight, he enjoyed watching Hallmark movies with her, something he never did before.
He was a great cook. He had an infectious laugh. He was loved by all who knew him.He loved teasing and playing jokes on people. He was good at taking what he dished out.
He was an Army veteran.
He will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 56 years,Jacqueline (DeLong), his children August III and Jessie Cioffi and her husband Joshua Cioffi. His 3 grandchildren, Jocelyn and John Rice, Amanda, Chantel and Tim Valentine. He had 6 great-grandchildren.
