Barbara Trowbridge Sanders, a treasured mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024, at the age of 81. Her warmth, dedication, and lively spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Born on November 24, 1942, in Needham, MA, Barbara spent her life as a beacon of kindness and encouragement. She attended Springfield College where she made lifelong friends and also earned a Master’s degree from Central Connecticut State University. Barbara’s career as a schoolteacher spanned over 40 years in the Newington and Hartford Public school systems, during which she inspired countless children with her unwavering support and boundless knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.
Barbara is predeceased by Gregory Sanders with whom she had two super awesome children: Laura Sanders and Brett Sanders. She was so proud of her two grandchildren, Hannah and Chase by Brett and wife Tami. The family would also like to recognize her dear friend, Lauren Deich, who cared for and cackled with Barbara in her final months. She also leaves behind beloved nephews and brothers- and sisters-in-law. Her legacy of love and learning will live on through them and all the lives she touched.
A memorial service will be held on September 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Center Church in Hartford. Donations in her honor may be made to the ASPCA or to Center Church’s flower fund, in recognition of Barbara’s role as flower chair for decades, a role which she inherited from her vibrant mother-in-law, Sabrina.
Barbara will be deeply missed for her love of uniting friends as family, her nurturing spirit, and wonderful laugh.
I had an immense pleasure of meeting Barbara at one Thanksgiving celebration two years ago in New York and instantly fell in love with her joyful spirt and a sense of humor. I imagine this lovely little lady was a blessing to everyone around her. Rest In Peace.
Two super awesome children who inherited their Mom’s big heart and gift of an amazing vocabulary sure is true. She inspired me to become a teacher and to wear a smile and carry an extra dose of kindness and patience into my classroom every day (also to laugh a lot). I know she will continue to be a guardian angel watching over Laura and Brett and I will look for her in the flowers in my classroom garden. Xoxoxoxo Jacqui
I'm sure Barb, Carole & my Mom are up in Heaven having fun together. Jordyn & I are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
