Voluntown – Betsy Lee Haskell, 54, of 68 North Shore Road passed away on Saturday at Villa Maria Nursing in Plainfield, surrounded by family, due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease. She was born on August 17, 1971, in Norwich, CT, daughter to the late Arthur Haskell and Dorothy (Coughlin) Haskell.

Betsy had a very sweet and caring heart. During her teens and twenties, she loved riding horses and received several awards in horse shows. She also competed in Tai Quan Dao events. When she was younger, she worked at McDonalds, Burger King, Foxwoods and volunteered at horse farms.

She is survived by her three sisters Linda Dooley (Tom Dooley), Cynthia Kuster (William Kuster) and Cheryl Giuliano (Jerry Giuliano) and her loving nephew and nieces.

Betsy was predeceased by her father Arthur Haskell, her mom Dorothy Haskell, her sister Laureen Conroy, her brother-in-law Randolph Tarr and nephew Jeffrey Tarr.

The family would like to thank all of Betsy’s caregivers for their assistance, especially Betsy’s niece, Amy Jackola, for her dedication throughout several years. Betsy had wonderful caregivers who encouraged and helped during difficult times of losing daily skills. Most recently to the staff at Villa Maria and Hospice for their compassion and kindness.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM Sunday, August 16th at Pachaug Cemetery, Griswold, CT. Due to her love for horses, a celebration of life at Hay Burr Inn Equine Rescue will follow at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hay Burr Inn Equine Rescue, 169 Black Hill Rd, Plainfield, CT 06374.
