Brian Whitlatch 1969-2022

BRIAN CHRISTOPHER WHITLATCH

March 3, 1969 – November 5, 2022

Brian Whitlatch, 53, of Salem, Connecticut, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 5, 2022. He was born on March 3, 1969, in Oxnard, California, the son of Larry & Roxalee Whitlatch.

Brian graduated from Channel Islands High School Class of 1987.  Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Navy stationed on the USS Fulton in New London, CT.

On April Fool's Day in 1988, he was set up on a blind date where he met his wife, Toni. They married the following year and settled in Salem, Connecticut.  They celebrated 33 years of marriage in September.

Brian was a member of the Salem Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed responding to calls, attending trainings, and working with junior members. He loved working on the equipment and getting the trucks ready for parades.  Most important to Brian were the people and friendships that lasted a lifetime.

For years he assisted as part of a pit crew and enjoyed watching NASCAR on Sunday afternoons. He loved camping and having people over, hanging out at the campfire, fishing on the lake, cruising around on his golf cart with Mia (his dog), and visiting with everyone.

Brian’s most precious time was spent with his girls and their husbands – he was so excited to have sons finally. When together, there was always laughing, picking on each other, and when the music started to play, the dancing began. In late October, Brian welcomed his first grandchild Michael – he was so proud to be a grandpa. These memories will be cherished forever!

Brian is survived by his wife, Toni Dunay Whitlatch; Kirsten, Alex & Michael Coombs, and Megan & Zachary Page. He is also survived by Cassandra, Leslie & Levi Whitlatch and Beverly, Dwight, Crystal, Lori & Dawn Whitlatch. Brian held a very special place in the hearts of Michael, Elaine & Sam Dunay, Carin Dunay, Angus & Euan Maclaurin, and Jill & Christopher Stelmack. Brian was predeceased by his parents, Larry & Roxalee Whitlatch, and his favorite canine companion, Nikki.

A “Celebration of Life” will take place Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Salem Volunteer Fire Company, 424 Hartford Rd. Salem, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Brian’s memory be made to the Salem Volunteer Fire Company.

Brian was a very special man. He loved his wife and two beautiful daughters. Although we didn’t stay in touch Jeff and I will always cherish the times we’d go do things with our two oldest. My fondest memory is the time we all went to Essex and Jared and Kristen had to sit together on the train. They were maybe 2 years old at that time. Brian you will truly be missed. I will miss seeing you on fb prayers to Toni and his girls
