Carlton Gilbert Finer 1941-2021

Carlton “Carl” Finer passed away at Apple Rehab Laurel Woods in East Haven on February 23, 2021, at the age of 79. He was born March 10, 1941 to Gilbert Carlton Finer and Helen Dewey.


Carl is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret (Lamb) Finer, his daughters, Laura (Mark) Rhodes, Wanda (Wayne) Lewis, Deborah (Vincent) Ferrucci, and #4, Edith Benoit, his nephews who he treated like sons Eddiejoe Lamb, Eddie “Redeye” Arnold, and Ron Cantley. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Victoria Cantley, Amanda (Alvin) Canuelas, Danielle (Allie) Gray, Billy Coppola III, Alyssa Coppola, and Sofia Ferrucci, his great grandchildren Antonio, Angel, and Callie, also survived by his brother Everett Schramm and sister Betty Sullivan, many nieces and nephews, his many friends that he considered family and his two cats Ruben and Max.


Carl was very proud of his degree in small engine repair he earned at the age of 75. Earlier in life he was the owner of Reconditioned Appliances for many years and later retired from The New Britain Candy Company as a truck driver.


Carl will always be remembered for his love of family, love of music (especially the oldies), love of stock car racing, going on cruises with his family and yearly trips to Clydes Cider Mill in Old Mystic, CT. He will also be remembered for his huge heart, his generosity, his shenanigans, and his sense of humor. He was always quick to offer you a beer, a cup of coffee, food, a place to sleep or whatever else you needed.


A celebration of life will be held at a later date per Carl’s wishes. In Carl’s words “Let the good times roll!”
