Cecile Marie (Breton) Haase, 55, of Killingworth, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at her home, on December 10, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous ten-year battle with cancer.
Raised in Durham, Cecile laid her roots in Killingworth, where she dedicated her life to her family and community. She was the beloved wife of Joseph Haase and devoted mother of Jessica, Megan, and Luke Haase. Cecile’s greatest joy was her family. She poured her heart into raising her children and caring for those around her.
A gifted musician and vibrant spirit, Cecile played the fife with the Coginchaug Ancients Fife and Drum Corps, sang with the Notre Dame Church Choir, and performed in two local country bands, Heartland and Skyline Drive. Her love of music extended to family reunions, where she sang alongside her cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Mercy High School in 1988, Cecile was a caring nanny for four children, started her own house cleaning service, and later joined AT&T in customer service. However, it was her volunteer work that truly reflected her generous spirit. For three consecutive years she rehabilitated houses in rural Appalachia, forming new relationships with others in the mountains of Kentucky. She donated her time to the Killingworth Nursery School, Meals on Wheels with her daughter Megan, and Haddam’s Relay for Life walks. For a decade, Cecile served as recording secretary for the Nathaniel B. Field Memorial Foundation, Inc., a role to which she was deeply committed.
Cecile was also a devoted caretaker to her aging father, extending his life through her love and attention. She took great pleasure in her animals, the ocean, sunsets, Sudoku puzzles, and Friday date nights with Joe at June’s Outback Pub. Her nieces and nephews lovingly called her the “cool aunt”, a title that warranted smiles.
Despite her illness, Cecile never lost her sense of humor. She continued to make her family, friends, nurses, and doctors laugh, bringing light even in the darkest moments.
Cecile is survived by her brothers Michael, Paul, and Leo Breton; sisters Jeannine (Breton) Adams and Marie (Breton) Field; and a large extended family. She is now reunited with her parents, Joseph and Pauline Breton, brothers Marc and Daniel and nephew Nathan Field.
All are welcome to gather for a casual Celebration of Life on Saturday, 1/3/26 at Deer Lake Outdoor Center, 101 Paper Mill Road, Killingworth, CT beginning at 1:00 pm. Join us in honoring a beautiful soul through songs, games, and laughter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Nathaniel B. Field Memorial Foundation, Inc.
Cecile’s legacy of love, laughter, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
