Charles E. Lyman IV, age 83, of Middletown, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026 at Autumn Lakes of Cromwell after a 2-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Charles was born on February 10, 1943 in Meriden, CT, to Charles E. Lyman III and Pearl Green Lyman. Charles grew up in a great household with lots of adventures with he and his brothers, Wallace and David.

After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in Middletown, and then Bentley College in Boston, Charles along with his wife Carolyn enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1967, where they were stationed in Istanbul, Turkey for 2 years.

He built his career in hospitality and front-end retail, working for Lyman Farm, Inc where he managed the Farm Market at Lyman Orchards. He went on to start his own grocery store, Lyman’s Village Market in Chester, CT where he immersed himself and his family in the community. Towards the end of his career, he worked for Ruby and Alan Vine managing their furniture warehouse, Railroad Salvage in Groton, CT up until his retirement.

Away from work, Charles loved spending time with his sons hunting and fishing, playing golf, or going to Yankees games. He loved spending time at Clinton Beach, watching golf or the Yankees on TV, traveling to Maine, and seeing his grandchildren play youth sports. He will be remembered most of all for his giving personality, “me second” mentality, and love for his family.

Charles is survived by, his three sons: Charles E. Lyman V and his partner Nicole Cotty of Southbury; William Lyman of Vermont; and Matthew Lyman and Daughter-in-Law, Sarah Lyman of Texas. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren: Madison, Norah, Molly, Adelyn, Greyson, Kennedy, Aria, and Zuri.

He was preceded in death by his late wife, Carolyn M. Lyman, his brothers Wallace and David Lyman, and companion of many years Veronica Borsari of Centerbrook, that he cherished dearly and loved unconditionally.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date and time.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Charles’ memory to Masonicare Home Hospice at Masonicare 22 Masonic Avenue Wallingford, CT 06492 .
