October 23, 1946 – September 16, 2025

Charles Edmund Buzzell, 78, of Seymour, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 23, 1946, in Saco, Maine, Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he worked as a dedicated dockworker for several trucking companies, most recently with Yellow Freight, before retiring.

Charles was a man who deeply valued family, the outdoors, and his roots. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved camping trips and spending quality time with his grandchildren. A true sports enthusiast, Charles never missed a Red Sox game and remained a loyal fan through every season.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Candy Buzzell; five sisters—Christine Fournier, Agnes Smith, Barbara Levasseur, Rosemary Lucier, and Betty Heyhal; and three brothers—Richard, Stephen, and Freddy Buzzell.

Charles is survived by his three children: Stacey (Nick) Gachi of East Haven, CT; Anthony Buzzell of Old Orchard Beach, ME; and Jaime Matheson of Seymour, CT. He was a proud grandfather to Anthony Buzzell, Jr., Ansley Matheson, and Josephine Matheson. He is also survived by his former spouse and longtime friend, Connie Buzzell and his two brothers, George Buzzell and David Buzzell, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to honor Charles’s life will be held on Sunday, October 5th at 1:00 p.m. at Seymour Congregational Church, Seymour, CT. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Charles will be remembered for his strong spirit, his love of family, and the way he lit up around his grandchildren. He leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever.
