Cheryl Cammarota, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on May 16, 1946, in Middletown, Connecticut, Cheryl was the cherished daughter of Connie and Albert Geremia.

A proud lifelong Connecticut resident, Cheryl graduated from Middlesex Community College and Woodrow Wilson High School in Middletown, where she formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. She remained close with her classmates and was still joyfully attending reunions, most recently celebrating their 55th class reunion.

Cheryl was known for her work ethic and dedication to her family. She began her career with Connecticut Bank & Trust. In 1985, she helped turned the key to a new company, Integrated Custom Software, where she was the Marketing Manager. In 1988 she and her sister took on a new challenge, opening a restaurant called Gram’s Kitchen.  Although this was successful, after three years, she decided that it was time to return to her original calling, banking. She spent the next 17 years with Bank of America as a Banking Center Manager. In 2011, she retired from Banking and assumed responsibilities as Finance Director at Visiting Angels in Middlefield, CT, where she worked right up until her passing proving that she never truly retired.

While Cheryl was proud of her career, nothing compared to the love she had for her family. Her greatest joy was being "Mom" to her children, Matthew Cammarota and his wife Maria and her loving daughter Carrie Reny and much-loved son-in-law, Gerry, and "Grammy" to Sophia and Stella Reny and Mateo and Maribella Cammarota. She was endlessly proud of each of her grandchildren and rarely missed a chance to cheer them on. Whether she was in the audience for Sophia’s and Stella's school musicals, or on the sidelines at Maribella's softball games, or Mateo's meets.

Anyone who knew Cheryl also knew there was one team that held a permanent place in her heart—the New York Yankees. It seemed fitting that she passed away on Independence Day, which also happened to be the birthday of legendary Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. Cheryl was a devoted Yankees fan who made annual trips to spring training in Florida whenever she could. Her favorite player was Thurman Munson and in fact her children recently surprised her with a personalized video message from one of her favorite players, Tino Martinez, on her 80th birthday.

As passionate as she was about the Yankees, Cheryl was equally devoted to the UConn Huskies women's basketball team. She rarely missed a game and proudly cheered on the Huskies through each championship and often attended the Women’s NCAA Final Four.

She leaves behind her loving children, Matthew & Maria Cammarota and Carrie & Gerry Reny; her cherished grandchildren, Sophia and Stella Reny, and Mateo and Maribella Cammarota; her beloved sister, Judy McGrath; her nephews Todd, Scott and Sean McGrath, her niece Paula Zajac, sisters-in-law Roseann (Robert) Kozloski and Vina Cammarota, extended family members, dear friends, including Teresa Giurintano and Patricia Kim and everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Cammarota, her parents, Connie and Albert Geremia and brothers-in-law John McGrath, Pat Cammarota, Steven Zajac and sister-in law Elisa Zajac and her nephew Steven Zajac, Jr.

In honoring Cheryl's life, her family asks that those who knew her remember her for her selflessness, her love of her devoted family and friends, and honor her by being thankful for all the blessings in your life and spreading love.  The family will hold a celebration of life this Friday, July 10th with a Catholic mass at 11am at St. Colman's Church where she was a faithful parishioner for many years, in Middlefield, followed by lunch at Taino Smokehouse Prime in Meriden at 1pm.
