David Holley




David Holley, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather peacefully passed away on Sunday July 28, in Hartford, CT.  

Born in Winsboro, South Carolina on June 8th 1935, he was a sharecropper at a very young age picking cotton to help take care of his family. Though he never graduated from high school he found work as a laborer and a machinist, retiring from Emhart in 1987.

David loved to fish, garden, watch old westerns, have a drink and a laugh, his family and dancing. His son David recalls a visit where he played him house music for the first time, he had to be in his 70's, he started dancing like us young ones do in the clubs. I said dad how you know how to dance like that and you're just hearing this type of music for the first time? He said," the rhythm  and beat just makes my body move that way, turn that up and bring the speakers outside.”

David is predeceased by his mother Rose, siblings Bessie, Annie, Josephine and Henry. 


He is survived by his wife Leona , children, Leslie, Meredith, David, Timothy, step daughter Yvette, step sons Andy, Tony, siblings Martha, Mary, Walter, Minnie, Sarah, Zenovia and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.


Funeral services are not planned at this time.  If you wish to make a donation please donate to a local animal shelter in his name and that of his beloved pups, Maggie,  Champ  and Sheba.
