Dawn Marie Burek (Sheehy), born on March 2, 1958, in Troy, NY, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024, in New London, CT, at the age of 66. She was surrounded by her loving family as she departed.
Dawn was a woman of deep Catholic faith, devoting her life to service and compassion. Along with being a loving mother, she served as a volunteer EMT with the Plainfield Fire Department, dedicating herself to the well-being and safety of her community. Later, she embraced a career in caregiving, passionately making a difference in the lives of those she helped. She was also a committed advocate for workers’ rights and was known for standing up for her colleagues.
Upon her retirement, Dawn cherished time with family, finding joy in celebrating her loved ones’ successes. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as watching Hallmark movies and true crime shows, and spent many hours absorbed in crossword puzzles, word searches, and reading her favorite author, Stephen King. She will forever be remembered for her sense of humor, stubbornness, and wit.
Dawn is survived by her four children: Tanya Gordon, Thomas Burek Jr. and his wife, Devon Burek, Tiffany Burek, and Troy Burek. She also leaves behind seven beloved grandsons: Sebastian Gordon, Avery Gordon, Gage Burek, Ivan Burek, Chayce Super, Jaxton Burek, and Rylan Burek.
A service for Dawn will be held on December 14, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Church in Plainfield, CT, with a gathering at the Plainfield Firehouse to follow.“
