Denis W. McCutcheon 1939-2021

Denis Wynne McCutcheon passed away on Sunday, August 8th at the age of 81 after a prolonged illness.


Denis was born on August 27,1939, son to the late Andrew J. McCutcheon and Lucy W. McCutcheon. He grew up on East Main Street in Branford. He graduated from Branford High School in 1957 and attended Arizona State University. Denis enlisted in the Air Force in 1961, attending basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He worked out of Albany, GA and eventually was stationed in Turkey for approximately 2 years. He was enlisted in the United States Air Force for 4 years.


He returned to Connecticut to follow his love of aviation and obtained his private pilot’s license out of Tweed New Haven Airport. He worked as a construction superintendent for Anderson-Wilcox of Branford for many years.


He enjoyed listening to the Yankees on the radio and was an avid reader. Along with these interests, Denis was fascinated by relics from local native tribes. His collection consists of many artifacts over the years including an extensive arrowhead collection.

Denis also enjoyed attending family picnics and spending time with his nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.


Denis is survived by his brothers Robert J. Mccutcheon (Linda), Vincent McCutcheon, sisters Anne Anderson, and Bernadette DeMusis. In addition, he is survived by his nieces Susan Lee (Kevin), Marcia Stewart (Jackie), Jill Hale (Michael), Patricia Dunham (Louis), and nephews, Anthony DeMusis (Louise), Ralph DeMusis, Michael DeMusis (Dusty), and Douglas Anderson (Tammy). He loved celebrating birthdays and holidays and hearing stories about his 15 grand nieces and nephews.


The family would like to thank the staff on the second floor of Cheshire Regional Rehabilitation Center and to Vitas Healthcare out of Glastonbury for Hospice care.

Services will be planned at a later date to include military honors with burial at the Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT.
