Diane Lee Ehlert (Benbaharia), age 68, after a long illness, returned to Our Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 12, 2021. Diane had been in Saint Raphael, of Yale New Haven Hospital at the time of her passing. Diane lived in a condominium in the town of West Haven since 2019. She was in and out of West Haven Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation for care. Then became a resident prior to being hospitalized.
Diane was born August 24, 1953, to Donald Charles Ehlert and Barbara Ann Barnett. She came into the world at the Grace-N-Community Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. Diane grew up in Hamden and East Haven, Connecticut, with her brother Donald John Ehlert and mother. She took ballet dancing lessons as a young child. Diane attended Hamden High School and then attended beautician school. She loved her fur babies and has always had one or two cats as roommates.
Diane was an avid supporter and contributor to the United Services Organization (USO). She struggled as a single woman and would help whoever she could. And so, her clothing has been donated in her name to a woman’s shelter. Assistive devices have been given to Prospect Veterans of Foreign War (VFW). Household items were donated to Continuum of Care.
Diane is survived by her brother, Donald J. Ehlert, wife Madeline C. Silberman (Ehlert) both United States Air Force Veterans, of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Nephew, United States Air Force Veteran, Donald John Ehlert, Jr, wife Irene Fox of Trier, Germany.
Diane’s aunts and uncles include: Benjamin and Shirley Morton (both deceased), Jack (deceased) and Alexandria Barnett, Joseph (deceased) and Patricia Reynolds, and Frank (deceased) and Jackie Reynolds. She leaves behind several cousins throughout the United States.
Diane will surely be missed by those she came in contact with. Her family wishes her peace and love as she is now at rest with those who have gone before her. Memorial service will be private.
