Donald Jean-Paul Couture, 83, of Enfield, Connecticut, beloved husband of Jane (Doering) Couture of 59 years passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, July 16, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Donald was born January 31, 1941, in Biddeford, Maine, son of the late Walter and Eva Couture, and was a resident of Enfield since 1968. He attended St. Louis High School in Biddeford, Maine before entering the Army in 1958. Donald returned from active duty in 1962 and soon after married the love of his life Jane (Doering) Couture on November 6, 1965. They raised their family and made their home in Enfield, where they spent the rest of their lives.Â
Donald was employed at Sweet Life Foods, in Suffield Connecticut, and retired in 1997 after being there for 25 years. In his free time and after retirement, you would find him wood working. Donald’s family were fortunate to receive such items as grandfather clocks, toy boxes, and display cases, such as his beloved doll case that resides in his living room, and his very first item made, which was a canopy bed that remains to this day. He loved visiting the Amish settlements in Pennsylvania with his wife, and he looked forward to his yearly tradition where every holiday he took his children and then grandchildren to purchase Hess trucks. He was an avid collector of these trucks, as well as Pez dispensers and wine too. Donald was always supportive of his children’s activities. To support his children, Donald could be seen fishing at a local river, or attending BMX and triathlon competitions with his children.
Left to mourn Donald are his four children, Deborah Sheehan and her husband Tom of Enfield, CT, Tod Couture and his wife Cheryl of Enfield, CT, Dave Couture and his wife Jennifer of Broad Brook, CT and Duane Couture and his wife Lori of Agawam, MA. Donald had six grandchildren, Brian, Kristen, Diana, Timur, Brianna and Gabby. Donald was predeceased by his brother Andre, and sisters Lucille Peppin and Rachel Pelletier. He leaves behind his beloved sister Madeleine Skrzypczak of Windsor Locks, CT, whom he called every day for years until his death.
Donald and his family would like to extend gratitude to the Veteran’s Hospital in West Haven, CT, the Visiting Nurse and Health Services of Connecticut and Dr. Shah of Enfield, Connecticut.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Donald’s honor to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. For online condolences, please visit www.abbeycreamtion.com.
