Donn B. Law 1923-2020

Donn B. Law, 97, of Windsor Locks, CT, beloved husband of the late Helen (Crocket) Law passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 24, 2020. He was born in Britt, Iowa on October 22, 1923; son of the late Frank A. Law and Dorothy C. (Hennings) Law. Donn graduated Mason City High school in 1942, enlisted in the United States Navy, then attended Purdue University Electrical school. Donn served on submarines in World War II doing 5 tours on the U.S.S. Whale. In August 1945 he married the love of his life Helen. In January 1946 Donn honorably discharged from the Navy and joined the Mason City, Iowa police department as Sergent. In 1949 he and his wife Helen, and their son Douglas returned to the East coast where Donn attended Boston University. Donn was recalled into the Navy to serve the Korean War on the U.S.S. Atule. After being honorably discharged he continued his education and graduated from Boston University to then began his career in insurance. Later to become principal in an Insurance and Real Estate business in Northampton, MA. Donn and Helen semi-retired to Cape Cod in 1976 where he re-entered the insurance industry as an Officer at a Chatham, MA agency. In 2012 Donn relocated to Windsor Locks, CT to be close to his family.


Donn was a member of the Holland Club, an exclusive group within the U.S. Submarine Veterans Organization. Donn enjoyed flying his airplanes and continued his love for the sea boating off the coasts of Cape Cod. He enjoyed the outdoors, biking, fishing and golfing on the Cape. He was a longtime member of the West Yarmouth Congregational Church and most recently a member of First Church, Windsor, CT.


Predeceased by his son Douglas Law in September, Donn is survived by his daughter-in-law, Patricia Law of Windsor; his grandson, Scott Law and his wife Allison of Burlington; his granddaughter, Sarah Prato and her husband Mark of Windsor Locks and six greatly treasured great-grandchildren, Zachary and Rachael Blinn, Weston, Juliana, Bradley and Grace Law.


Donn leaves behind many friends at Stonebrook Village and most recently Bickford Healthcare Center, both in Windsor Locks.


A private burial with full military honors will be held at the Chandler Grey Cemetery, West Yarmouth, MA. Memorial donations in Donn’s memory may be made to United States Submarine Veterans Charitable Foundation, Inc. – USSVI Charitable Foundations https://www.ussvcf.org/
