Edward Barnabas Mariasi

Edward Barnabas Mariasi passed away March 29, 2026, at his home in Bolton, Connecticut.  He was 87.


Born July 18, 1938, in Torrington, Connecticut, he was the son of Barnabas and Mary (Kocsis) Mariasi.  


Edward graduated from Torrington High School in 1956, and resided in East Hartford, Connecticut, before moving to Bolton, CT in his retirement years.


He was a member of St. Mary Church in Coventry, CT and was employed at Aetna Life and Casualty for 36 years before retiring. He then enjoyed being a School Crossing Guard for the Town of East Hartford at the Middle School, and worked at Big Y, also in East Hartford.


He was a proud member of the Hungarian Social Club of Ashford, CT.


Ed was a good-natured person, and everyone loved him. He spent many years traveling with his son, David, to various AFSCME union conventions across the country, where all the union members loved and adored him.


He would watch the daily Catholic Mass on TV, as well as his favorite movies, which include The Shawshank Redemption, Rambo, The Karate Kid and Hallmark Christmas (his favorite.) He was an avid fan of UCONN Men’s and Women’s Basketball and would always watch the games and cheer them on.


He was a wonderful, caring father and grandfather to his grandchildren, who he absolutely adored.


Edward was predeceased by his beloved wife, Florence M. (Malitsky) Mariasi, who passed away August 11, 2022.


Surviving are his sons, Michael Mariasi in Bolton, CT and David (Lace) Mariasi in Coventry, CT; a daughter Karen (Matt) Kaufman in San Carlos CA; Grandchildren, Vincenzo and Victoria Mariasi, Nicholas, Justin and Ryan Mariasi; Phillip and Zosia Kaufman. 


Surviving, in addition, are a sister, Mary Jane (Mariasi) Whitehill (wife of Jay Clarke Whitehill, who passed away in 2019), and nephew Jay and niece Kim. 


Surviving are brothers-in-law Hank (Beverly) Malitsky and Joseph Ford; Sisters-in-law, Mary (Rob) Zubris; Cecilia Washo; Victoria (Tony) Gennaro; Josie Malitsky, Mary Ann Malitsky, and Johanna Malitsky and an additional 24 nieces and nephews.


Ed was also predeceased by sisters in law, Julie Ford and Marjorie Malitsky; brothers-in-law Carl, Stan, Frank, Joseph Malitsky, Michael Washo, a niece, Cynthia Malitsky; nephew Gary Zubris and great nephew Craig LeDuc.


His son, Michael, lived with Edward as caregiver in his Bolton home.

The Mariasi family extends its gratitude to Hartford’s Community Renewal Team (Meals on Wheels) for their support.


Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St, Mary’s Church in Coventry, CT on Saturday, May 16th at 11:00 AM. 


Interment at the convenience of the family. The Abbey Funeral Home, of Rocky Hill, CT is assisting the family with arrangements.
