Elizabeth Anne Meyer 1952-2023

Elizabeth “Bette” Anne Meyer, 70, of Cromwell, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 16, 2023.

Bette graduated from Cromwell High School in 1970. With her husband David, Bette raised two children, Michael (Lindsey), of Providence, and Kelley, of Cromwell. She grew up on the Monnes Dairy Farm in Cromwell and loved learning about and sharing the history of the area, earning her Masters from Wesleyan in 1996 and completing a thesis about the history of the area and giving historical tours. Bette loved music, taking her kids with her to folk concerts in their youth and enjoying local live music with her friends in later years. She was a fan of the water and loved swimming at beaches in Connecticut and New Hampshire and taking a dip in Miller’s pond.

In recent years while navigating declining health, Bette was cared for by her loving daughter, Kelley, who lived with and supported her mother, showing her endless love and care.

Bette was predeceased by her parents, John F. and Marion (Kelley) Monnes, and a sister, Marion Knakal. Besides her children and granddaughter, she is survived by her brothers, John (Kathy) Monnes of Portland and Bill Monnes of Cromwell; granddaughter Kit Ravizza-Meyer of Providence, RI; niece Emily Monnes of Portland and nephew Christopher (Sharon) of Cheshire; as well as many other relatives on the Meyer side of the family.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, April 1, at 10am at St. John Church in Cromwell. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Cromwell Historical Society or the CT River Conservancy.
