In Loving Memory of Esther Ortiz
With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Esther Ortiz, 82, of Hartford, CT, who passed away on April 2, 2026. She was born in Barranquita, PR and was a devoted partner, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew her.
Esther Ortiz was the heart of her home — a proud stay-at-home mom who dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was funny, strong, and incredibly caring. A true fighter, she faced life’s challenges with courage and grace, always putting others before herself. Her generous spirit and loving nature made her someone people naturally gravitated toward, and she was truly loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved gardening and took pride in her beautiful flowers. She enjoyed cooking for her family, creating meals filled with love and laughter. She also loved trips to the casino, spending time with her beloved life partner, and being surrounded by her children — the people who meant the most to her. Her home was always full of warmth, love, and humor, just like her.
She is survived by her loving partner, Ferdinand R. Segarra, who stood by her side through life’s joys and challenges; her beloved children, Fernando R. Segarra and wife Estela M. Segarra and a very special niece Evelyn Figueroa; Yanira Segarra and partner Heriberto Irizarry; David Segarra; Dianette S. Mancini and husband Kevin P. Mancini; her cherished grandchildren, Nathan Blas and Christian Segarra; her beloved dog, Cindy. She is also survived by her sisters, Luz Aponte, Nidia Ortiz, and brothers, Israel Ortiz, Cole Ortiz, Victor Ortiz, Paco Ortiz, Orlando Ortiz, along with extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing Esther’s love will continue to guide us. Her strength, laughter, and unconditional love will live on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and forever remembered.
With love, always.

This is an incredibly helpful guide to cracking the wallcovering code! Breaking down the selection process into the three core pillars of color, pattern scale, and texture makes it so much easier for anyone to visualize how a room can be transformed without feeling overwhelmed. I especially love the insight on how vertical patterns can effortlessly create the illusion of higher ceilings, and how textured materials like grasscloth not only hide wall imperfections but also offer natural sound-dampening qualities. The way you articulate these design principles is so clear that it could easily serve as foundational material for anyone studying interior architecture. For design students or scholars inspired to write a formal research paper on the psychological impacts of spatial…
Reading Esther’s story felt deeply personal and moving, and it made me reflect on how we honor people through shared memories. During a tough semester, I struggled to keep up with responsibilities and even searched for someone to take my online class for me just to manage everything emotionally. This post really shows how important it is to support one another during life’s most difficult moments.
