Southington – Eugene Gilbert Stanhope, 88, of Hemlock Dr. passed away Saturday January 25, 2025 at Hartford Hospital. He was the husband of the late Marian (Bryant) Stanhope and married for over 50 years.
Eugene was born in Machias, Maine on October 15, 1936 and was the son of the late Eugene and Muriel (Guptill) Stanhope. Eugene was drafted in 1959 to the Army where he served as acting sergeant for 27 months. Eugene was employed at Pratt and Whitney for over 30 years. He loved spending time at his cottage in Jacksonville ME, morning coffee and conversations, working out at the Calendar House and days at Pioneer Valley Live Steamers riding the trains with his son and granddaughters. Eugene was a member of the Faith Living Church in Plantsville.
Eugene is survived by his loving children, Eugene Stanhope Jr., of Southington, Virginia Ouellette and her husband, Lance, of Jaffrey, New Hampshire, Sandi Siedel and Michael Camp, of Southington, and Kimberly Steele and her husband, Charles, of Bristol; six grandchildren; Stephen Ouellette, Amie Ouellette, Cassondra Kluz, Erica Stanhope, Jake Siedel and Kaitlin Siedel; five great-grandsons; Hunter Allan Ouellette, Nathan Robert Ouellette, Sawyer Joseph Ouellette, Wyatt James Ouellette and Dominic Hale; two sisters, Karen Tomasik, of Machiasport ME, Sharon Gray, of Brewer, ME and brother Doug Stanhope, of Jonesport, ME. He was predeceased by his son, Robert E. Stanhope, grandson Joey Ouellette, and two brothers Charles Stanhope and Lee Stanhope.
Services will be private, and Burial will be at South End Cemetery.
