Frances Chapman 1928-2020

Updated: May 29, 2020

Frances Helen Adamczyk Chapman, age 92, of Bethany, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2020 at Lord Chamberlain Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford, CT.

Frances was born on April 13, 1928 in West Haven, CT. As a child she lived in the New Haven area, graduating from Commercial High School in New Haven in 1946. After High School she enjoyed flying and took plane lessons. She was married on November 12, 1949 and after continuing to live in the New Haven area, she and her husband bought a piece of land in Bethany, CT in 1959 where they would build the home that allowed many memories to be made. Over the years while raising their six children, Frances and her husband cared for a variety of animals including dogs, cats, horses, goats and chickens. Frances also made a habit of feeding any stray animals that showed up near her home. She enjoyed a quiet, simple life, and she found solace being surrounded by nature after losing her sons and husband. She always opened up her home to family and was the host of many holiday meals. She enjoyed cooking, collecting stamps, and getting cards, pictures, calls and visits from her large family. She worked at AC Gilbert after High School, and then as a cashier at Bradlees for several years. She also volunteered with her husband at the Bethany Vol. Fire Department and The Bethany Ambulance Corps. She will be missed, but we know that she is happy to be with her husband, sons and siblings again.

Frances is survived by her sister; Carol Lyon of East Haven, daughters; Cathy Depalma and Deborah Fitcher of Belgrade, ME, Candace Chapman of Oxford, CT, and Wanda Scinto of Shelton, CT, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Anthony Adamcyzk and Frances Kumeinga; her husband of 29 years, Raymond Elton Chapman, Jr.; her sons Dennis, Raymond, III., and Mark; and her siblings Mary Rakiec, Amelia Gorman, Edward Adamcyzk and Helen Farace.

Frances’ wish was to be cremated with a burial service, but due to the Covid-19 restrictions the date for the burial service is pending. Once arrangements have been made family will be notified. The service will be held at All Saint’s Cemetery on 700 Middletown Ave in North Haven, CT.
