Frank Schiumo

Frank Schiumo, (89), a long-time resident of South Windsor, Connecticut, passed away on July 10, 2024.  He was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments.

Born to Frank and Christine Schiumo on June 15, 1935, in the Bronx, Frank grew up there, always retaining a bit of the Bronx in his personality.  A graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University with a degree in mechanical engineering, he spent his entire working career at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford.

Frank gave generously of his time, serving as a volunteer fireman, performing a variety of duties at Manchester Memorial Hospital, spending more than 20 years as a volunteer at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, and braving the elements to distribute food for Connecticut Foodshare.  A congregant of the Unitarian Universalist Society East in Manchester, Connecticut, he was a fixture at the UUSE’s monthly ROMEOs luncheons, where his renowned sense of humor was on full display.

A frequent traveler, Frank and his wife Shirley travelled to Italy, France, England, Alaska, and several Caribbean islands.  As an avid fan of the UConn basketball teams, he often gathered with friends for watch parties.  He also enjoyed playing softball in the Vernon Men’s Senior League.

Frank’s caring and generous spirit is carried on by his wife, Shirley; their children:  Janet, Frank, Carol, Melanie, Michele, Michael, Melissa; eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.  Preceding him in peace were his parents, his sister Brunetta, and her husband Rudy.

His family would like to thank the staff at Touchpoints in Manchester for their compassionate and comforting care of Frank in his final days.  A memorial service will be held at a later date; details will be announced.
