OXFORD- Frederick Stimson Blatchley Sr., 90, beloved husband for 70 years of Lillian Scott Blatchley, passed away peacefully at his son's home on April 17, 2022.
Fred (Slim) was born June 26, 1931, in New Haven. He grew up in Chester and married Lil on March 15, 1952. Fred built their family home in Shelton in 1960 where they lived and raised their three sons. He worked as a welder for Avco Lycoming and later worked for Branson Ultrasonic Cleaners in Shelton until his retirement in 1988. After retirement they moved to Naples, Florida, and later to Sarasota. In 2006, they returned to Connecticut full time.
Fred was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1970. Being 6'9" tall, he always stood out in a crowd and was known as "Quite a Character" with his quick-witted comments. Fred and Lil enjoyed traveling and spent many happy times at the “Lake” with their close friends.
In addition to wife Lillian, he is survived by his sons and their wives, Roger & Lark of Seymour, Frederick Jr (Rick) & Elizabeth (Liz) of Oxford and Craig & Susan of Torrington, eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Jared, Tristan, Brandon (Leigh), Jordan, Eric, Heather (T.J.) Engels, and Sean (Jamie). As well as four great grandchildren and a very large extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Joel Alden and Esther Stimson Blatchley, his brother William and granddaughter Brittany Blatchley.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
I LOVE this picture of him. It’s the one I have in my head. He was a larger than life friend of our family and not just in height. We loved him dearly. Spent many happy hours with them and Craig as a kid. Id like to think of him and my Dad up there having a laugh. Condolences to the family. All the best
