Ganshyam Sukhai Sr., 76, of East Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on September 18th, 2024.
Born on May 23rd, 1948, to Alma Khan, Ganshyam, affectionately known as "Bush," spent the early part of his life in Guyana. He was a cherished member of a large and close-knit family. During his time in Guyana, he was a fisherman at sea, and it was there that he met and married his first wife, Julie Parmanand. Bush was known for his love of music and dancing, and his vibrant personality brought joy to everyone around him.
In 1980, Bush moved to the United States, where he continued to build a life full of friendships, laughter, and passion. He loved watching football. He was an avid music lover, always ready to share a dance or a song with those around him. Bush's enthusiasm for life extended beyond his love of music; he was an accomplished martial artist, earning a 4th Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo, a discipline he shared with his youngest son, Shyam.
Bush was preceded in death by his first wife, Dhanrajie "Julie" Sukhai. His beloved children survive him: Shamila Sherri Stuka, Jaipaul Leon Sukhai, Tiffany Sukhai, Ganshyam Sukhai Jr., and daughter-in-law Jessica Sukhai. He was a devoted and loving grandfather to Shyam, Romeo, and Iris Sukhai, playing a daily role in their lives and leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
Bush spent his life caring for others, creating a vast chosen family beyond blood relations. From a young age, he made it his mission to ensure that everyone around him felt supported and loved. It was a privilege and honor for his family to care for him in his final days, just as he had cared for so many throughout his life.
A private burial will be held, followed by a celebration of Bush's life on November 9th. Details for the celebration will be shared with family and friends in the coming weeks.
Bush's legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to others will forever be remembered by all who had the joy of knowing him. He will be deeply missed.
