Celebrating The Life Of

   Gary Jerome Smart

Sunrise: August 26, 1966 - Sunset: April 24, 2024

Gary J. Smart was born in Florence, South Carolina on August 26, 1966 to Edna Mae Hairston. On April 24, 2024 in the presence of his loved ones he peacefully departed his earthly shell.

He completed his studies in the Public Schools of Florence County.

Gary lived a life on the go. From taking care of himself as young boy in South Carolina to moving to Connecticut as an adult on a mission.

He loved to fish, grill, listen to music and play pool with his Uncle Melvin(Pop's), family and friends. Chess was his greatest love above all. He was ecstatic that his Grandson inherited this skill and love for the game.

In this life he gave what he knew, he gave what he could. Let his sins be forgiven, kindness be remembered, smile be embedded in our hearts, and unwavering energy and persevering strength carry on.

Gary was preceeded in death by his mother Edna Mae Hairston, brother James Sylvester Holmes, stepson Tony Pagan, great grandparents John and Essie Jett Mclver, grandmother Lillie Mae Mclver Evans, grandfather Clyde Smart Sr., Aunt Allene Smart, Uncle Clyde J. Smart Jr., cousin Clyde Alford, Uncle Freddie Evans, cousins Juan Anthony Smart Sr. and Melvin Smart Jr.(Max).

Those who will cherish his memory consist of his daughters; Gabriela Smart(Jared), Shanna Kinch, Carolyn Kinch(Tyvon), Shannon Kinch. His sons; Paul Pagan(Lucy), Jason Mckenzie, Phil Kinch and all others known and unknown. Uncle/Pops Melvin Smart(Gloria), life long friend Junior Kinch, grandkids, great grandkids, relatives and friends.

              "I'M FREE"

"Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free,

I’m following the path God laid for me

I took his hand when I heard him call,

I turned my back and left it all

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work or play

Tasks left undone must stay that way,

I’ve found that peace at the close of day

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Ah yes, these things I too will miss

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,

I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow

My life’s been full, I’ve savored much,

Good friends, good times, my loved one’s touch If my time seemed all too brief,

Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief

Lift up your heart, rejoice with me,

God wanted me now, He set me free.
