George Malcolm Akerley, of Manchester, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, at the age of 76.


Born on December 2, 1948, in Middletown, CT, George was the son of the late Walter and Marian Akerley. He attended Syracuse University where he studied journalism and political science. A lifelong sports enthusiast, George especially loved football and basketball, and he remained a passionate supporter of his beloved Syracuse teams throughout his life. He was also deeply involved with Newington basketball, where he shared his love of the game through coaching and mentoring young athletes.


George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war, receiving awards and commendations for his service. Professionally, George dedicated his career to the banking and financial industry, serving in roles as a bank officer, loan officer, manager, underwriter, and counselor at a variety of financial institutions. Beyond his professional accomplishments, George shared his gift of music as a praiser and songster with the Praises of Zion Choir at the Frist Cathedral Church in Bloomfield, where his voice and faith lifted the spirits of many.


George is survived by his children, Caleb, Todd and Kris (Nancy), his grandchildren Benjamin, Amanda, Colin and Caden, and his sister Judith Jones. He will be remembered as a devoted father, loving grandfather and faithful servant of God.


A private celebration of George’s life will be held by the family.
