Gladys (Baskiewicz) Ruggiero, 100 of Manchester CT, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday October 28, 2019, 7 days shy of what would have been her 101st birthday.
Born in Hartford CT on November 5th 1918, she was the daughter of Polish immigrants Thomas and Eleanor Baskiewicz. Gladys attended St. Cyril and Methodius school and Church in Hartford, CT where she was active for many years. Gladys as a young woman worked tirelessly to provide for her family during the depression as a factory worker in Hartford CT and during her golden years worked as an assistant day care provider with her daughter Paula. Â
Among those cherishing her memory are her daughter and son, Paula St.Germain and her husband Joseph of Manchester, CT and Derick Ruggiero and his wife Gail of Belton, SC as well as her grandsons Shawn DeLaire and his wife Tammi, Keith DeLaire and Daniel and Desiree Ruggiero, in addition to several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her brother, Peter Baskiewicz of Wethersfield, CT., survives Gladys. She was pre-deceased by her sisters Pauline Baskiewicz, Jane Olinski and Jane’s husband John Olinski, Stella Baskiewicz and sister in-law Helen Baskiewicz. Gladys treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She loved her role as Gram and had a kind soul. She kept an immaculate house, was highly skilled with crochet hooks, and enjoyed arts and crafts. At 100 years of age, she really lived a full happy life and always had a smile on her face.
A Roman Catholic Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday at St, James Church, 896 Main St, Manchester, CT 06040. Burial will follow at Mt St Benedict Cemetery, Cottage Grove Rd, Bloomfield, CT 06002.
