Gloria M. (Madden) Curby, 88 of Hanson, passed away peacefully at home on February 26, 2023 under Hospice care, after a brief illness. Daughter of the late John & Evelyn (Brown) Madden, she was born and raised in Rockland and became a longtime resident of Hanson. After graduating from Rockland High School, Class of 1953, she attended Chandler School for Women in Boston and worked as a legal secretary up until marrying her love, the late James Curby. She enjoyed being a wife and stay-at-home mother to her three children, Mary Lou, Michael, and Pamela. Gloria loved the ocean and spent many summers vacationing on Cape Cod with her family. Gloria’s hobbies included Bingo, crossword puzzles, reading the Sunday Globe, Jeopardy and she was an avid New England Patriots and RedSox fan. Gloria showed amazing strength and faith in dealing with her recent cancer diagnosis. Up until her final days, she imparted her words of wisdom to her family, “Make the world a better place” and “God is good”.
Gloria is survived by her children, Mary Lou Stock of Pembroke, Michael Curby & his wife, Valerie of Las Vegas NV, and Pamela Yonika and her husband Michael, of Bolton, CT. Her grandchildren Lauren, Richard, Evan, Andrew, Justin, Nicholas, and great grandchildren, Amelia and Charlotte, brought so much joy to her life. Gloria is also survived by her brother John “Jack” Madden of Duxbury, & many nieces and nephews whom she loved with all her heart. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters, Priscilla (Kelly) and Marilyn (Clarke).
The family wishes to acknowledge those who helped Gloria through her final journey: Dr Amy Brown & the caring and compassionate staff of Hartford Healthcare at Home - Hospice. A funeral mass and ceremony at Bourne National Cemetery will be held Mother’s Day weekend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center in Hartford CT and Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore, Weymouth.
