Henry Szkoda

Henry Szkoda, age 62, of West Hartford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on the 14th of April 2026 after a long and hard-fought battle with illness. Henry was born on October 3rd, 1963, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Jan and Lucja Szkoda. His family moved from Hartford to West Hartford at a young age, with him attending West Hartford Public Schools, and ultimately graduating from Conard High School in 1983.

Though he insisted his favorite job was being a stay-at-home father with his son Matthew, he spent most of his adult life working in maintenance and construction. If there was ever something you needed fixed, he was the right man to call. Despite his expertise, he was forced into early retirement due to a heart condition, resulting in an internal heart pump and eventual heart transplant. Following his transplant, he enjoyed several years of good health and spending time with his son and ever loyal dog, Toby. Unfortunately, Henry was diagnosed with VEXAS syndrome in 2023, leading to an eventual diagnosis of cancer, to which he would succumb to.

Henry is survived by his son Matthew Szkoda, as well as Matthew’s mother, Jamie Szkoda. Alongside them, he leaves his three brothers, Roman and his wife, Juliane; Edward and his wife, Lynn, parents of Blake and Allyse; and Peter and his wife, Roxanne, parents of Jasmine, Lexi, and Gretchen. He is predeceased by his parents.

There will be a celebration of life and spreading of his ashes, alongside his beloved dog Toby, to be determined at a later date.
