Howard “Howie” Youngquist

On October 28, 2024, Howard “Howie” Youngquist of Southbury, CT passed away after a long illness at the age of 74.

Howie was born January 8, 1950 in Danbury, CT. Raised in the Hat City, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Western Connecticut State University with a double major in geology and physics.

A Jeep aficionado, he was a walking encyclopedia of mechanical knowledge and could fix it all. As an avid machine and tool collector, Howie could be relied upon for having the right solution on hand. He had a knack for regaling friends and family with a story or joke and always appreciated a good pun.

Howie had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed annual road trips to Vermont and Maine with his wife, Monica Akelaitis.

He is survived by his wife Monica; son Philip Youngquist, daughter Anna Youngquist, and their mother Cathrene Valente-Youngquist; grandchildren Gwynnevere Wolfson, Alyda Wolfson, and Timothy Wolfson; brother Malcolm (Susan) Youngquist, cousin Clara (Tom) Tesarz, and nephew Bob Youngquist. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Aryana Youngquist and parents Philip and Helen Youngquist.

A private celebration of life will be held for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Howie’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choosing.
