James Bates ( Jim ) born on 9/4/1934 in Rudyard, Michigan son of the late Arlington and Olive Bates passed away on 2/15/2023 surrounded by loved ones at the Villa Maria in Plainfield, CT but was a resident in Malone NY at the Farrar Home.
James was predeceased by his two daughters Lisa Watson of Plainfield Ct, Mary Grills of Norwich Ct and daughter in law Elysia Bates of Plainfield Ct his first and second wives, Marie Bates and Rita Bates both of New York two sisters Phyllis and Joyce and 1 brother Tommy Bates, James is survived by his brother Fred (Betty) Bates of Michigan and a sister Janet (Tom) Purves of Michigan, son in law Paul Watson of Moosup Ct, son Jim Bates of Plainfield Ct, and daughter Jean (Keith) Abram of Putnam Ct, along with 10 Grandkids, 27 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
James served as a cook on submarines in the United States Navy for 20 years and was a long time Resident of Taftville, Moosup and Sterling Ct as well as Constable and Malone Ny. He always enjoyed being on bowling leagues in both Ct and Ny, and loved to spend time with family and friends. James is and will be greatly loved and missed by all.
I only remember seeing Jim a few times. The most memorable was when he had on his Navy uniform. Being pretty young, I was in awe. My dad, Ralph Bates loved all his nieces and nephews.
