James John Farrell, Enfield, CT, took his last breath and slipped peacefully into the Spirit realm on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Loving angels of past family members surrounded him in Spirit as he left this Earth plane. Jim was born on 3/3/54 into a family of girls, so you can only imagine the fun he had growing up. He was a funny, gentle, quiet soul who loved music. He had a beautiful voice, and he and his sisters loved singing with him while Jim played guitar. Jim was an accomplished drummer and later demonstrated that he could pick up any musical instrument and learn it quickly.
Jim's life took a new turn over the past 10 years when he discovered a profound connection with nature through fishing. It was more than a hobby; it was a spiritual journey that brought him inner peace. His dedication was evident in the hours he spent planning his fishing trips and the refurbishment of his 12’ aluminum V bow boat. The addition of a trolling motor made fishing all the more fun, and he explored lakes and ponds all over Connecticut. For Jim, being on the water, regardless of the catch, was a meditative experience, a moment of true communion with his God.
For 13 years, Jim was a companion of Bill W. and the guiding principles of AA. These principles were not mere words to him; they were a transformative path to self-discovery and healing. Through them, Jim found peace within himself, with the God of his understanding, and with his family.Â
Jim leaves behind his devoted sister, Deborah Farrell Giddings (Enfield, CT), loving nieces Karen Barnes (West Hartford, CT) and Jordan Barnes (West New York, NJ), and nephew, Loryn Barnes (New Milford, CT). He will be missed by his lifelong friends Bryan Carpenter and Jerry Mullikin, with whom he traveled and went on many adventures. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Mary (Cook) Farrell, his brother Frederick, and sisters, Sharon and Tricia.Â
To honor Jim’s wishes, the burial will be private.
