James Michael Moriarty

James Michael “Jim” Moriarty, born October 13, 1942, in Torrington, Connecticut, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 15, 2026.

Jim was the beloved husband of Mary Yankunas Moriarty and the proud father of his daughter, Kelly, and her fiancé, Jason Flint, and his son, David, and daughter-in-law, Danielle. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Isaac and Mia Moriarty, and Ben and Owen Spafford, who brought tremendous joy to his life. Jim is also survived by his brother, Ed Moriarty, and his wife, Diane, as well as his nieces and nephews.

Jim honorably served his country in the United States Navy as a Seabee, with service in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis and in Vietnam.

Throughout his life, Jim found joy in oil painting, target shooting, wood carving, and golf. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.

In accordance with Jim’s wishes, funeral arrangements will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Jim’s memory to Connecticut Foodshare.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who knew him.
