It is with great sorrow in the early morning of July 3, 2022, God called James Nelson Jr. home to paradise. James entered the world on January 20th, 1950 in Manhattan New York to James and Rachel Nelson. James was affectionately called “Butch” by family and friends.
Butch attended Midwood High School and graduated in 1968. After graduation Butch entered the US Air Force. During his time of service, he served two tours in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1972.
Butch, then attended Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn NY, where he played basketball for the school’s team.
Butch was an avid sports fan. His favorite basketball team was the NY Knicks. He was known to be very soft spoken with a great sense of humor.
James was proceeded in death by his father James Nelson Sr, mother Rachel Nelson and brother Richard Nelson. He will be lovingly missed by wife Cheryl Keenan-Nelson, children Leslie Nelson, Wesley Nelson, Desmond Nelson and Ebony Robertson, sister Darrolyn Joseph, brother-in-law Howard Joseph, sister-in-law Desiree Keenan, grandchildren Malcolm Nelson, Jahlon Sturdivant, Maxwell Nelson and Brooke Blackmon, nephews Shawn and Richard Nelson, nieces Stacy Joseph, Taisha Nelson and Katisha Cofield, numerous cousins and a host of friends.
