James Patrick Schuyler, 64, of Groton, CT, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loved ones on February 7th, 2023.
James was born on March 8th, 1958 to the late George and Florence Schuyler in Munich, Germany. He graduated from Fitch Senior High School in 1976 and began his 38 year career at Electric Boat, with a 9 year hiatus at Pfizer. In 1987, Jim met his beloved “Tish” at a classy bar, the Porthole, where it was love at first sight. His tight leather jacket made her family skeptical of this suitor, but his generous heart and love for his family won them over. Jimmy was famous for knowing the words to every song, or making them up when he couldn’t remember them. The radio was constantly on in the Schuyler’s household and visitors could always hear him singing along. In his younger years, Jim was a fierce contender in Karaoke competitions. He was also his family’s number one pick as a partner in competitive family pinochle, canasta, and cornhole games. Jim’s greatest joy was being a proud Papa to his 17 grandchildren. He also enjoyed sitting on the back deck chatting with his friends and family. He would often venture to local beaches to relax, read the paper, kayak, fish or just watch the world go by.
James is also predeceased by his brothers, Stephen Schuyler and Thomas Schuyler, and granddaughter, Amaya Small. Jim is survived by his wife, Patricia Schuyler, D.F.W.L.Y.B. He was a proud father and step-dad to Stephanie Kuncas, Erica Mazzella, Gregory Schuyler, Joseph Schuyler, Sandy Betancourt, James Schuyler, and Christopher Small. James is also survived by his siblings, Patricia Death, Catherine Budwash, Alice Jost, and Michael Schuyler.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring. Donations in Jim’s memory can be made to Masonicare Hospice. Please visit https://www.abbeycremation.com/ to leave the family an online condolence.
