Jennie (Civitillo) Grasso, 83, of Middletown, CT entered into eternal rest Friday August 20, 2021 at Middlesex Hospital surrounded by her family. Jennie was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Pinatello) Civitillo. Jennie is survived by her husband, Angelo Grasso. She was predeceased by her sister Christine Amoroso who resided in Delray Beach, Florida.
Prior to her retirement, Jennie worked as a secretary for 25 years at Middlesex Hospital. Her colleagues and friends became an extended part of her family. She was passionate for the arts, and was a member for many years of the Hartford Chorale which performed locally as well as at historic venues in Greece and Italy. She also enjoyed the summer months listening to the Boston Pops at Tanglewood and as well as many shows at The Bushnell and The Hartford Stage. She was always ready to break out her rendition of Happy Birthday at any celebration. Jennie loved the English language and enjoyed many hours reading, playing scrabble competitively, and completing every crossword puzzle she came upon in the newspaper or magazines.
Similar to her mom, Jennie was passionate about orchids. She took great care of many varieties and thoroughly enjoyed their beauty. Never without her camera, Jennie grew interested in photography and has a large collection of photos from family functions.
Jennie is survived by her son, Daniel Grasso and his wife Lori of Higganum, a daughter Gina Glynn and her husband Jeff of Simsbury. She was proud of her grandchildren Vincent, Devin, Colby, Eric, Jenna, Antonio and her great grandchild, Bella. Jennie was predeceased by her nephew Ronald Randino. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jennie’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the special care they provided to Jennie over the years. This includes, but not limited to, Dr. Michael Farrell and the staff of Connecticut Oncology Group, Dr. Joseph Corning and staff at Middlesex Cardiology Associates, and the entire staff of Middlesex Hospital. In addition, a special thanks forthe compassionate care and support provided by Wendy McKay of Meriden.
