January 9,2022, Jessie E. Delahanty entered into eternal rest at home in Killingworth. Born in New Haven, CT May 7,1923, daughter of Emeline and Chelsea Cook. Predeceased by her husband William E. Delahanty, husband, and also Kenneth P. Doolittle, longtime friend and companion of over two decades, and brothers Stuart and Chelsea.
She is survived by her daughters Helen Brady (George) and Eileen Ossa (James) of Killingworth. Jessie also is survived by four grandchildren, Christine Willett and Kevin Brady of Middlefield and Marisa and Michael Ossa both of Killingworth; four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Jessie lived most of her life in West Haven before moving to Killingworth six years ago. She was retired from the University of New Haven where she worked in their library and later at Co-op as a secretary. Jessie had been the altar guild treasurer at Christ Church for many years. She was active in the Congregational Church as well. She was a past member of the garden club, and a volunteer at different grammar schools in West Haven. She took pride in her sewing and tailoring creations. She enjoyed the Pioneer luncheons with Ken. She was always up for a party!
In lieu of flowers contributions in her name can be made to the Shriner’s Children Hospital, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA. Mom loved the child in their commercial! Due to Covid a funeral service is not yet planned.
Dear Helen, Eileen, and family, I am very sorry to learn of Jessie's passing. She was a lovely lady whom I was very pleased to know when she attended the First Congregational Church of West Haven. She often offered well-intended and useful comments in our conversations. I am sure that her joyful spirit will be well received in the Heavenly Realm. God bless,
Stephen R. Hildrich, Church Historian First Congregational Church of West Haven
