In Loving Memory of Joanna M. Hansen 1958 - 2022
In the early autumn hours on Sunday, October 2nd, 2022, Joanna M. Hansen, age 64, succumbed to her battle with cancer. She passed away while at home in Wethersfield, CT, and in the presence of family.
She spent her closing weeks fulfilled with themed family dinners, local river boat rides, watching Christmas movie favorites, and being cared and comforted for by her daughters, their families, and local friends.
Joanna was born, and spent her early childhood years, in Baltimore, Maryland, and where she developed a life-long love for blue crab, crab-fests, old bay, and the ocean. This carried with her after having moved to Connecticut when young, and where she remained the majority of her life.
Favorite past-times of hers include binge watching top criminal series shows, crocheting blankets for loved ones, collecting and reading about angels, looking at photos, shopping (usually for others), and spending quality time with family.
For those who had the opportunity to know her, will remember an uncanny ability to hold a conversation (for hours often times!), her innate thoughtfulness, unique perspective, and a most unexpected sense of humor.
Joanna was not one to shy away from an opinion, took joy in sharing stories and advice, valued experiences over material items, and had compassion for people despite having kept many of her own feelings to herself.
She regularly sought opportunities to prepare everyone’s favorite meals, secure meaningful gifts, and took pride in her festive decorations. A homey atmosphere was of great importance to her.
Joanna’s grandchildren brought immense happiness to her and remained a priority focus. She emphasized how much she loved them, strove to be present regularly for their sporting events, concerts, each special occasion and milestone, and valued each opportunity to spend quality time.
Joanna is survived by her five children; Diana Gentile, Dana Kellier, Illena Brown, Katarina Turgeon, Joshua Denney, and her ten loved grandchildren, three siblings; Bud Hansen, Bruce Hansen, Juanita Arigno, former husband; Glen Anger, and the family feline; Bootsie.
Predeceased includes her mother; May Hansen, father; Floyd Hansen, first husband; Don (Donald) Denney, and eldest sister, Patsy.
Pre-outlined wishes include cremation, followed by an intimate boat-charter service to be had by her daughters.
Both were honored, and concluded Sunday October, 16th off the shore of Mystic, CT.
