MOOSUP – John (Jack) Cheney Howard, born October 8th 1945 in Montgomery Alabama, to John Sr. and Edna (Fleming) Howard, passed peacefully on February 7th in his childhood home on Snake Meadow Rd, while surrounded by his loving family.
After graduating from Plainfield high school in 1963, Jack served in the United States Marines as an aircraft mechanic in Danang, Vietnam. He was passionate about his service in the Marines and was a proud lifetime member of VFW post 5446. Jack later worked as an ONR Technician at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in California where he met his wife Barbara (Kish) Howard. They later moved back to Moosup, CT, as he dearly missed his family
and friends. Jack had a very gentle soul. In his later years he enjoyed helping other veterans by transporting those in need to appointments at his own expense. He always enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. Opening day was a big event for him along with his grandchildren. He prepared all the supplies and the kids loved going with “gampa.”
Jack was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Edna Howard, and one grandchild, Erikka Howard. He is survived by his three daughters and son in law; Caroline Howard of East Hampton, Catherine Howard of Moosup, Rebecca Howard of Tennessee, and six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, as well as his brother William Howard and his wife Brenda of Moosup and close friend Donna Arnio.
A celebration of life will be held in Moosup sometime in the Spring.
