John Edward Guminiak 1959-2022

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

John Edward Guminiak of East Hartford, CT, passed away on Tuesday, September 20th, 2022, at the age of 63. He is survived by his wife Penny, his son Adam, his daughter Kasey and her husband Evan, and his grandson Keegan. He also leaves behind a large, loving, and lively family and many close friends.

John was born March 25th, 1959, to Teddy and Mary Guminiak of East Hartford. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1983, and made a career in software engineering, most recently working for Aetna in Hartford. On October 8th, 1983, he married Penny Lackard, and together they had two wonderful, headstrong children: Adam and Kasey. John and Penny raised both kids largely in Glastonbury before returning to East Hartford.

A cherished family man, a newly minted grandfather, and an ever-hopeful New York Giants and Yankees fan, John was a Connecticut native. His heart, however, always resided in Maine, where his legendarily close-knit family has a deep history. Their family camp in Gouldsboro was John’s favorite place to be, a place he spent summers as a kid helping out his grandparents. It was also somewhere he was proud to show his grandson the summer before he passed.

John was a man of immense generosity and compassion, whose love for life was exceeded only by his love for family, and he devoted himself entirely to those around him. He opened his home to family, friends, friends of friends, and anyone seeking a welcoming atmosphere, some great conversation, or just a cold beer. He could command a room, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him will miss his warm smile and booming voice.

John’s family will host a celebration of his life and legacy from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 1st at Maggie McFly’s in Glastonbury (40 Glastonbury Blvd., Glastonbury, CT).
