On Monday, June 1, 2020, John Mosur Jr. passed away, in his home, and entered heaven peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife Donna of 47 years and their daughters, Tara and Stacey. John fought a long and courageous battle with liposarcoma cancer and was age 66 when he passed. John was a longtime resident of New Britain, CT until he and Donna built a home in Newington, CT, where they lived for the rest of his life. John had retired in 2017 from a long and successful career of 45 years as a Database Administrator at Bank of America.
In his younger years, John enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid snow skier. Later in life, John and his wife discovered their love for cruising and traveled on cruise ships to a number of destinations. Prior to his illness, he had the opportunity to share his love of cruising with his children and grandchildren as well. Despite his battle with cancer, John remained physically active up to this past February. He was a longtime member of LA Fitness in Newington where he would work out on a daily basis. He enjoyed his routine of swimming, followed by the early morning spin class where he was well known. The highlight of his morning was spending time in the company of the class instructor and the regular attendees that he made friends with. John loved to cook and grill up huge meals for his family. He also enjoyed working outside in his yard and took a lot of pride in his lawn.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend to many. He loved his family dearly and adored his grandsons. He was a regular at many of the local businesses and would frequently stop to talk and make friends with many people whom he routinely saw. John will be missed tremendously but his family is peaceful in knowing that he is no longer in pain.
John was predeceased by his mother, Gladys Mosur. He is survived by his father, John Mosur Sr. of New Britain, his wife Donna of Newington along with his two daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren: Tara Mosur and Brett Stoutenberg of Colorado, Stacey and Brian Meehan of South Carolina and his grandboys who just adored their “Gunka”, Aiden, Samuel and Elias. He is also survived by his brothers Henry Mosur (Rebecca) and Michael Mosur (Robyn) and sister, Linda Morin (Denis) along with many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial for family will be held at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory can be made to St Francis Hospital Cancer Center, Glastonbury Infusion Center at 95 Woodland St Hartford, CT 06105.
There are no words that can convey the sorrow we are feeling right now. We are not simply friends, we are family, and we are grieving as hard as you are at losing John. We wish we could be there to ease your burden.—Tom and Linda Grzeika
Rich and I were saddened by this news. We spoke to Tommy and Linda this morning. So many great memories, when our kids were young, being with you at Highland Lake and the guys Lake Ontario fishing trips.
Bless you all, love from the Barbers
