Joseph Cesarini 1933-2021

On Friday, July 30, 2021, Joseph Cesarini, of Cheshire, CT, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family at the age of 88. Joseph was born on March 23, 1933 in Piedimonte Matese, Italy. He married in 1957 and started a family with the “most beautiful girl from Alife,” Maria. In 1966, he moved to America on the S.S. Constitution with his wife and 2 children, leaving the rest of his family in Italy. Now that’s love. They raised 3 children and had a wonderful life doing everything together their whole lives. For several years and while they still had their health, they were fortunate to be snowbirds to Cape Canaveral, FL; they were truly inseparable.

Joseph worked for Leonard Concrete Pipe until he retired in 1995. He was a skilled professional mason, but just as talented in construction, building, and he could repair anything. All around us we see his talents as well as ingenuity of reusing and repurposing items even before it became popular. He enjoyed Maria’s cooking and baking, winemaking, gardening, swimming, walking, the beach, playing Napoletane cards, and listening to Italian music, but most of all, spending time with his family. He liked UCONN basketball and wore a Mets hat just because Andrew loved them. He wanted everyone to be happy. We were blessed to have known this loving husband and father who was so hardworking, strong, patient, kind and handsome, with a great, quiet sense of humor.

A truly devoted father and grandfather or Nonno as he was called, Joseph is survived by three children, Louis Cesarini of Delray Beach, FL, Brunella Granatelli and her husband John of Cheshire, and Dorian Cesarini of East Hampton. Grandchildren, Brianna (Nick) Conetta, Andrew (Stephanie) Narcisco, Joseph Granatelli, Jacob McElroy and Wyatt McElroy. His newest joy and reason he was able to go on after the loss of his wife, was becoming a great grandfather (Bisnonno) to Lea Maria Conetta. They had 8 months of precious moments.

Joseph is lovingly remembered by his sister Maria (Nicola) Paterno, brothers Leopoldo (Irma) Cesarini, Giovanni (Rita) Cesarini and Ludovico (Maria) Cesarini, and cousin Luigi (Barbara) Cesarini, all of Piedimonte Matese, Italy. He will be missed by all who loved him including many cousins, in-laws, godsons, nieces and nephews.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife and love of his life, Maria Masucci Cesarini, his parents, Luigi and Maddalena Cesarini, and sister Lina (Angelo) Orsini.

Joseph and Maria prayed the rosary every day and danced to a cassette of old Italian music every night, and we know they are now reunited and dancing in heaven.

The Cesarini family would like to sincerely thank the Masonic Home Hospice nurses and staff for their excellent care and support.

Service will be private. Should family or friends desire, donations in Joseph and Maria’s memory may be made to their favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
